Contributing BIG Donation for Atlanta’s Needy Families

ATLANTA – QJS Design Studio’s Chief Creative Officer, Quintavious Shephard, and Creative Director, Tchanavian Roche have been nominated for the “Humanitarian in Design” award. Their charitable campaign helped raised nearly one million dollars for those affected by the earthquake in Haiti.

The Haitian Earthquake damaged a large portion of the land in Haiti. Due to the powerful nature of the earthquake many were left stranded and homeless. Through the use of advertising and a few other promotional materials for Big Kidz Foundation Haiti benefit, they were able to help over 2 million children affected.

“Big Kidz has been a huge supporter of the less fortunate community here in Atlanta and we wanted to extend its reach to those in a much bigger need. By creating this campaign, we wanted to capture the hurt and anguish of the people of Haiti and those affected by this tragic event. It was important that we used stimulating, black and white imagery in every piece,” said Quintavious Shephard, Chief Creative Officer.
Shephard concluded, “When providing our services for the Haiti Benefit, we were just a team of individuals looking to provide support to those in need. We never imagined that we would make the strides we did, or even be nominated for a Humanitarian in Design award. We are gracious, and humbled by this entire thing.”

The awards ceremony will take place in late January, where they will face off against three other nominated design firms.

CIN Joins the List of Growing Clients

ATLANTA – The Community Investment Network, or CIN is a national network of philanthropists working together to achieve one goal. Their core values include: social justice and equity, collective influence, inclusive philanthropy, learning centered practices, and philanthropic leadership.

This organization understands the importance of assisting African Americans and people of color with the tools needed to invest and take action in their own communities. With such a unique goal in mind, it was necessary to create design pieces that would standout, and serve an important movement.

The non-profit headquartered in North Carolina, enlisted the services of the design studio and needed a new design for their instructor’s workbook and toolkit.

With the creation of these design pieces, it was important to stay in line with the core values, and mission of the website.

“It’s important for an organization to keep a fresh face and grow with its audience. CIN has done a great job with establishing a strong online presence and wanted to extend it to its frequently used educational tools. We were delighted to assist them with that.” Said Creative Director, Tchanavian Roche.

The project is nearing completion towards the end of December, and the design team have created s few pieces with so much more to come. CIN looks forward to seeing the entire vision in progress when the project wraps up.

Athens New Renaissance Magazine Names QJS Its Agency Of Record

ATLANTA – QJS Design Studio recently tabled their reuniting in partnership and rebranding initiative with New York based publication, Athens: New Renaissance Magazine. The creative firm, QJS, is a visual design team that exercises more than just their graphic work. For this project, the firm has spearheaded a new activation to embed Athens’ distinct publishing work into New York houses through the magazine’s custom designed typography, layout and logo.

“…helping to give the publication a style of its own was the ultimate branding design challenge,” said Joey Shephard, founder and chief creative officer of the company. “There are many trade publications in New York, but Athens has become an icon of sorts with a strong following and we wanted to position their brand’s visuals as such.”

The QJS team began working with Athens in the beginning of 2012. Their first publication released together featured Hip Hop artists Joey Badass and Pro Era, as well as, latest indie sensation Allan Kingdom. The team’s visual strategy has led the publication to a widened readership of 500,000. Since then, Athens has advanced in itself leading them to partnerships with brands like Urban Outfitter’s, athletic company Without Walls, and more.

For the latest rebranding of the publication, Athens’ 6th issue with the QJS team introduced the publication’s signature typeface. Dubbed “Athens Sans”, it’s combined with traditional typefaces Benton Sans and Minion Pro, giving the publication it’s own fun yet functional and traditional familiarity. QJS Design Studio’s team is an agency of record – which means the firm’s responsible for creating all of Athens’ communicative artwork. Outside of developing surface visuals for clients, they work to engage them as partners and study the brand’s essential qualities; therefore, developing a richer detail to the intrinsic pieces. The design firm has worked with various companies like Atlanta’s Big Kidz Foundation helping the organization gain over $1 million dollars, as well as, University Courtyard’s campaign, which increased their leasing by 36%.

Their direct project with Athens is anticipated to release at the end of September, with a full publication release and new online website. The issues will run both physically and digitally.
